BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- In a wet and windy matchup held on an ugly afternoon at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium Sunday, the Bulldogs' Jermaine Seoposenwe scored one of the prettiest goals of her career as Samford rowed its way to a 4-0 Southern Conference victory against the VMI Keydets.

With her goal, which was deemed a double-header by Samford head coach Todd Yelton, Seoposenwe tallied her team-leading ninth of the season and the 35th of her career to set the school's all-time record in the category. Seoposenwe surpassed former Bulldog-great Malcanisha Kelley's mark of 34, which she set last year during her senior season.

On Seoposenwe's historic goal in the 24th minute of play Sunday, a pass was fed forward into the right side of the box where junior Ella Baggett headed the ball directly over to Seoposenwe near the left corner.

Without time to gather the pass and kick home a shot, Seoposenwe neatly headed the ball past VMI's goalkeeper Ceci Keppeler to give Samford (9-5-1, 5-0 SoCon) an early 2-0 advantage in the contest.

The Bulldogs also received a pair of goals from Abriella Argueta on Sunday, as well as a second-half tally from Erin Bonner. Seoposenwe assisted on both of Argueta's goals, while Baggett, Sauder and goalkeeper Anna Maddox registered assists as well.

Maddox, the reigning SoCon Athlete of the Month, has already earned two assists from her goalkeeper position this season.

With Sunday's victory, Samford extended its winning streak to eight straight matches. The Bulldogs' last loss of the season occurred well over a month ago, Sept. 3, in a tough 1-0 road defeat at Kennesaw State.

Since playing to a home 1-1 draw with Georgia on Sept. 8, the Bulldogs have rattled off consecutive victories against Western Kentucky, 1-0, UC Davis, 1-0, Saint Mary's (CA), 1-0, Western Carolina, 1-0, ETSU, 2-0, Chattanooga, 3-1, UNCG, 2-0, and VMI (5-9-1, 2-3-1 SoCon).

Samford has only allowed a total of three goals in its last 11 matches dating back to Aug. 27. During the stretch, the Bulldogs have outscored their opponents by a total of 21-3.

Samford, which has won three straight SoCon titles, is in the midst of a 15-match winning streak against conference opponents. The Bulldogs have not been defeated by a SoCon rival since Sept. 25, 2016, when they were topped at Furman, 3-2.

Samford outshot VMI, 25-6, on Sunday and garnered an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Bulldogs owns a 6-0 all-time record against the Keydets and have outscored VMI by a total of 28-0.

The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Friday at 6 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs travel to Macon, Georgia, for a huge SoCon showdown against the Mercer Bears.
