BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford University volleyball team was defeated by the second-place ETSU Buccaneers on Friday, 3-1 (25-18, 25-10, 27-29, 25-11), in a Southern Conference match held at the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford (11-16, 6-7 SoCon) will next be in action Saturday at 5 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs host their Southern Rail Rivals, the Chattanooga Mocs, in a Senior Night showdown. Prior to the match, the Bulldogs will honor their 2017 senior class consisting of Kate Neisler and Morgan St. Germain.

On Friday, ETSU (14-10, 10-3 SoCon) earned victories in the first two sets by scores of 28-15 and 25-10. Samford then bounced back to rally for a third-set triumph, 29-27, before the Buccaneers put the match away with a 25-11 win in the fourth-and-final stanza of the evening.

With its victory, ETSU extended its winning streak to three straight matches. Since losing a 3-2 match at Western Carolina on Oct. 22, the Buccaneers have posted consecutive triumphs against The Citadel, 3-1, first-place Furman, 3-0, and Samford, 3-1.

The Bulldogs' Krista Boesing tallied a team-high 15 kills on Friday, while Shayla Phillip added 10, as well as a team-best .368 hitting percentage. Sophomore Grace Tiesman chipped in with eight kills to go along with a team-high 10 digs.

Junior setter Taylor Anderton posted a match-high 39 assists in the contest and also finished with eight digs.

ETSU was led by Leah Clayton with 20 kills, while Rylee Milhorn followed with 18. Milhorn only committed one error on the night and finished with a phenomenal .607 hitting percentage. As a team, the Buccaneers finished with a .398 percentage on the attack.
