SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford freshman
Elsa Pool was named the Southern Conference's Player of the Week when the league released its weekly women's tennis awards Tuesday morning.
Pool has started the year 4-2 in singles play and has an identical 4-2 mark in doubles competition.
The Kingscote, England, native has split time between No. 2 and No. 3 singles and has gone 2-0 at No. 2, including a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over Sonia Chen of Louisiana Tech. She strung together four-straight singles wins before falling to South Alabama's Laura Valkova (2-6, 2-6) on Saturday.
Pool has competed at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles with three different partners, but has managed to put together a 4-2 mark in doubles competition. After starting the season at No. 3 doubles, she was moved up to No. 2 and paired with
Arianna Beltrame. The duo came away with back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs before Pool was then paired with
Grace Jennings.
Samford (4-2) returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 15, when the Bulldogs host Jacksonville State. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Complex.
