ETSU Uses Three Homers To Down Softball, 6-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
East Tennessee State softball belted three home runs on its way to a 6-1 win at Samford in the final game of a Southern Conference series Sunday at the Samford Softball Stadium.

For Samford in the loss, Madison Couch went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Abbie Miranda turned in a 2-for-3 performance with a double, while also scoring Samford's lone run of the game.

Grey Adams (7-10) pitched 5.0 innings, giving up three runs on two hits to take the loss in the circle for the Bulldogs. Taylor DeCelles and Jessica Stone also pitched in the game for Samford.

For ETSU, Taylor Carter went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI. Kelsey Smith also homered for the Bucs, going 1-for-1 at the plate. Madison Ogle (8-9) pitched 4.0 innings, giving up one run on four hits to earn the win. Rebecca Wahrmund tossed the final 3.0 innings to pick up her second save of the season.

The Bucs took an early lead with two runs in the top of the second inning and one run in the third inning. Carter hit a two-run home run for the two runs in the second inning. In the third inning, Quinn Giesick doubled to right-center field to drive in Mykeah Johnson for a 3-0 ETSU lead.

Samford came back with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 3-1. Couch singled up the middle to drive in Miranda, who had doubled earlier in the inning, to bring Samford to within two runs.

ETSU put the game away with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. With two outs in the inning, Carter hit a solo home run for the first run. Smith later hit a two-run homer to make the final score 6-1.

With the loss, Samford falls to 16-25 overall and 6-3 in Southern Conference play. ETSU improves to 17-19 overall and 3-3 in league games.

Samford will step out of SoCon play to play at Lipscomb Tuesday night. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start from Nashville, Tenn.
