CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The fourth-seeded Samford softball team fell in the championship round of the 2017 Southern Conference Tournament by a score of 6-0 to the third-seeded ETSU Bucs Saturday afternoon at Frost Stadium.
With the loss, Samford ends its season with a record of 25-36. ETSU is now 29-24, and the Bucs earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Samford had four players named to the All-Tournament team for the event. Pitcher

Shelby Maze and left fielder
Kelsey Royalty all earned All-Tournament team honors.
In the loss for the Bulldogs, Maze and Couch had one hit each. Maze ends the season with a school-record 90 hits. Adams (12-15) took the loss in the circle, pitching 2.0 innings, giving up four runs on five hits.
Jessica Stone also pitched in the game for Samford, tossing 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits.
For ETSU, Danielle Knoetze went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Mykeah Johnson went 3-for-4, while Nikki Grupp and Taylor Carter collected two hits each. Lindsey Fadnek (9-5), who was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, earned the win for the Bucs, tossing 5.0 innings, giving up just one hit and walking five batters.
ETSU scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead. The Bucs took control of the game with three runs in the third inning when Knoetze hit a three-run homer to left field to make the score 4-0. The Bucs added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the final score 6-0.
