TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The Samford University soccer team struck first Sunday behind a quick goal from senior Jermaine Seoposenwe in the second minute of action to take a 1-0 lead, but then the Alabama Crimson Tide charged back with two first-half goals of its own to rally for a 2-1 nonconference victory held at the Alabama Soccer Stadium.

Samford (0-2) will next be in action Thursday at 7 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs play host to the No. 4-ranked Florida State Seminoles at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.

With one of the toughest nonconference schedules in the nation this season, the Bulldogs have already faced two top-notch opponents in Memphis and Alabama (2-0). Samford fell to Memphis on Friday, 3-0, while the Crimson Tide opened its 2017 campaign with a 5-1 victory over Jacksonville State.

The Bulldogs' next two matches will be played at home against Florida State (Thursday) and Michigan State (Sunday).

Seoposenwe helped Samford take an early 1-0 lead Sunday as she scored a quick goal in the second minute of play. The goal proved to be her first of the young 2017 season and the 27th of her illustrious Bulldog career.

Seoposenwe's unassisted score gave Samford some huge momentum to start the match, but Alabama rebounded with two goals in the next 18 minutes to take its decisive 2-1 advantage.

Taylor Morgan equalized the match at 1-1 with a goal in the 18th minute of play, while Kayla Mouton connected on the game-winning score off or a corner kick less than two minutes afterwards. Mouton's key score occurred at exactly 19:39 in the first half.

Samford outshot Alabama, 13-12, but the Crimson Tide finished with more attempts on-goal, 7-5.

The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Thursday at 7 p.m. (CDT) as the Bulldogs play host to the No. 4-ranked Florida State Seminoles in arguably the most-anticipated match to be held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.
