BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Samford University soccer team posted its most lopsided victory since Oct. 29, 2016, on Friday as the Bulldogs tallied a 5-0 triumph over the Alabama State Hornets in a nonconference matchup held at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.

Samford (1-4) dominated possession in Friday's matchup and outshot Alabama State (1-4), 39-3, in the victory. The Bulldogs rattled off 20 shot attempts in the first half and added 19 more in the second stanza.

The win proved to be Samford's largest margin of victory since last season when the Bulldogs topped VMI at home, 5-0, in the quarterfinal round of the SoCon Tournament.

On Friday, Samford's offensive attack was paced by junior Korrie Sauder who came off the bench to tally two goals on six shot attempts in 51 minutes of action. The Bulldogs' Ella Baggett, Jermaine Seoposenwe and Kaitlyn Orman also added goals.

Baggett gave Samford its early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of play on an assist from Abriella Argueta. Junior defender Nyalyn Moore handed out a team-high two assists in the victory, while Baggett and Seoposenwe added helpers as well.

Alabama State goalkeeper Gianna Guyot finished with 14 saves Friday. Samford used a trio of goalkeepers led by senior Anna Maddox and combined to make two saves.

The Bulldogs finished the victory with 14 corner kicks, while holding the Hornets to zero.

Samford led 2-0 at the half and entered the locker room with a 20-1 advantage in shot attempts.

The Samford University soccer team will next be in action Sunday at 5 p.m. (CT) as the Bulldogs travel to Atlanta, Georgia, for a key nonconference matchup against the Kennesaw State Owls.
