BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford football team moved up two spots to No. 17 in both the FCS Coaches poll and the STATS FCS poll, released Monday.
Samford, ranked 19
th in both preseason polls, moves up after earning a 28-23 season-opening win over Kennesaw State last Thursday night. The Owls are receiving votes in the STATS poll.
Samford is one of four Southern Conference teams to rank in the top 25 of both polls. Wofford is ranked 10
th in both polls. Chattanooga is ranked 13
th in the STATS poll and 14
th in the Coaches poll, while The Citadel comes in at 14
th by STATS and 13
th, according to the Coaches poll.
In the STATS poll, eight of the nine SoCon teams are at least receiving votes. In addition to the four ranked in the top 25, Mercer, ETSU, Western Carolina and Furman all received votes in the STATS poll. Mercer also received votes in the Coaches poll.
Samford will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 7, when the Bulldogs host West Alabama. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Seibert Stadium. To purchase tickets for Thursday night's game click here:
