BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team swept the Mercer Bears, earning a 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-23) win Friday evening in the Pete Hanna Center. With the win, Samford improves to 9-10 overall and 4-1 in Southern Conference play. Mercer falls to 8-8 overall and 1-4 in league matches.
KEY MOMENTS
- The first set was tight early until with Samford leading, 9-7, the Bulldogs went on a 9-3 run to take an 18-10 lead.
- Samford built its lead to 10 at 22-12, and eventually won the first set, 25-15.
- In the second set, with Samford leading, 9-8, the team went on a 9-2 run to push its lead to 18-10.
- Mercer fought back to cut the lead to four at 24-20, but a kill by Elise Watford gave Samford the 25-20 set win.
- In the third set, Samford jumped out to a 13-8 lead.
