KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Samford men's basketball team traveled to third-ranked Tennessee Wednesday night and were within two possessions midway through the second half, but the Volunteers were able to separate and earn an 83-70 victory over Samford in Thompson-Boling Arena.
With the loss, Samford falls to 10-3 on the season. Tennessee improves to 9-1 with the win.

- Samford was led in scoring by Ruben Guerrero with 16 points.
- Kevion Nolan had 13 points, while Myron Gordon added 12 points.
- Josh Sharkey scored 10 points and grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds.
- Robert Allen tied a career high with 11 rebounds.
- Tennessee was led by Jordan Bone with 24 points.
- Admiral Schofield had 18 points and seven rebounds.
- Grant Williams scored 16 points, while Kyle Alexander added 10 points for Tennessee.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Samford scored the first five points of the game to take a 5-0 lead with 19:00 left in the first half after a three-pointer by Brandon Austin.
- Tennessee, however, answered with a 10-2 run to take a 10-7 lead with 16:18 to play in the opening half.
- Samford fought back to take a 16-13 lead with 11:03 left in the first half after a free throw by Guerrero.
- Tennessee scored the next eight points to take a 21-16 lead with 8:46 left in the first half.
- The Bulldogs answered with a 12-0 run to take a 28-21 lead with 6:14 left in the opening period following a three-point play by Guerrero.
- Tennessee came back with a 16-0 run of its own to take a 37-28 lead at the 2:23 mark in the first half.
- The Volunteers took a 41-32 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- After Tennessee pushed its lead to 44-32 early in the second half, Samford scored five straight to cut the lead to seven at 44-37 with 18:23 to go after a three-pointer by Gordon.
- Samford closed to within five points at 48-43 with 15:40 to go after a three-point play by Sharkey.
- With Samford trailing, 53-47, Tennessee went on a 17-6 run to take a 70-53 lead with 6:06 to go in the game.
- The Volunteers stretched their lead to as many as 20 points at 83-63, but Samford closed the game with a 7-0 run to make the final score 83-70.
