Men's Golf To Open Spring At Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate

MOBILE, Ala.—The Samford men's golf team will open its spring season by competing in the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate, hosting by the University of South Alabama at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course (Par 72, 7,212 yds.) Monday and Tuesday.
The teams will play two rounds Monday and one round Tuesday. Joining Samford and South Alabama in the tournament will be Abilene Christian, Nicholls, Central Arkansas, Notre Dame, Florida State, Oral Roberts, Illinois State, Richmond, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Louisiana, Southern Mississippi, Louisiana Tech and Western Kentucky.
Samford was led in the fall by sophomore Alec Stopperich who leads the SoCon with a 72.33 stroke average. Junior Aaron Walker ranks seventh in the league at 73.07, while Harlan Winn has an average of 73.58, ranking 16th in the league.
"I'm excited to start our spring season after a successful fall," Samford head coach Al DelGreco said. "Alec Stopperich leads our conference in stroke average. Aaron Walker is seventh and Harlan Winn is 16th. These three young men provide a strong foundation to build on as we continue to improve our program. Austin Rains and Jackson Seawell will round out our top five heading into this event."
Austin Rains has a 74.67 stroke average, while Jackson Seawell averaged 79.50 in the fall. George Hall (79.00), Alex Markham (78.33), Hunter Hickingbotham (76.27), Ford Malmin (82.33) and Josh Berze (78.67) also return to the team this spring.
"I'm also very encouraged by the progress of George Hall, Alex Markham and Hunter Hickingbotham," DelGreco said. "Those three along with Ford Malmin and Josh Berze will play as individuals this week. This tournament has a strong field that includes FSU, Notre Dame, Southern Miss, Richmond and South Alabama."
