JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Samford softball team will travel to in-state rival Jacksonville State for a game Wednesday at 5 p.m. at JSU's University Field.
Samford enters the game with a record of 0-4. The Bulldogs opened the season last weekend at the Mardi Gras Classic in Lafayette, La. Samford dropped decisions to Louisiana-Lafayette (7-1), Illinois-Chicago (11-1), Evansville (14-6) and Eastern Illinois (4-0) last weekend.
In last weekend's tournament, Samford was led at the plate by infielder
Madison Couch, batting .364 with a home run and five RBI.
Ashlyn Barnes hit .300 for the weekend.
Kelsey Royalty and
Mekhi Mayfield drove in a run each for the Bulldogs.

Taylor DeCelles,
McKenna Gillespie and
Emily Barnett all pitched for the Bulldogs during last weekend's event.
Jacksonville State is currently 3-2 on the young season. The Gamecocks opened the season at the River City Leadoff in Jacksonville, Fla. JSU defeated Army twice (6-3 and 4-3), split two games with Jacksonville (L, 8-6 and W, 8-7) and dropped one game to Connecticut (7-4).
Taylor Beshears leads the Gamecocks at the plate, batting .526 (10-of-19) with five doubles and five RBI. Hayley Sims is hitting .500 (6-of-12) with a double and three RBI. Lex Hull leads the team in RBI with six.
Wednesday's game will mark the 59
th all-time meeting between Samford and Jacksonville State in softball. JSU holds a 38-20 advantage in the series. The teams met once last season, with JSU earning an 8-0 win in a tournament in Oxford, Ala.
