ATHENS, Ga. – Georgia pitcher Kylie Bass tossed a no-hitter as the 17
th-ranked Bulldogs defeated Samford, 10-0 in six innings on the first day of the Red and Black Tournament Friday evening.
Bass (2-0) pitched 6.0 innings, striking out eight batters and walking two to lead Georgia to the win.
For Samford,
Taylor DeCelles (0-2) pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 10 runs, nine earned, on 12 hits.
Madison Couch and
Kathryn Jackson both drew walks from Bass, but Samford was unable to drive either runner home.
For Georgia at the plate, Mahlena O'Neal went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI. Alysen Febrey went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while Ciara Bryan was 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI. Cortni Emanuel went 3-for-4 at the plate for Georgia.
With the loss, Samford falls to 0-6 on the young season. Georgia improves to 6-1 with the win.
Samford will take on Winthrop Saturday at 9:30 a.m. (CT) to open the second day of the Red and Black Tournament. The Bulldogs will then play Georgia again at 12 p.m. (CT).
