Women's Basketball Picks Up Road SoCon Win At WCU, 50-32

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Samford women's basketball team earned a 50-32 Southern Conference victory over Western Carolina Saturday at WCU's Ramsey Center.
 
In the win, Samford was led by Samantha Fitzgerald, Cassidy Williams and Natalie Armstrong with 10 points each. Hannah Nichols added six points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. Olivia Crozier also had six points for the Bulldogs.
 
Western Carolina was led by Sherae Bonner with nine points and nine rebounds. Nikki Johnson added six points for the Catamounts.
 
Samford led 12-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs held a 25-18 lead at halftime, and the team built as much as a 21-point lead in the fourth quarter, before eventually taking an 18-point victory, 50-32.
 
The Bulldogs led for 37:12 of the 40-minute game. Samford won the rebounding battle, 39-31, including 12 offensive rebounds, to six for WCU.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 14-13 overall and 6-6 in Southern Conference play. Western Carolina falls to 5-23 overall and 1-11 in league games.
 
Samford will host ETSU Thursday evening in the Pete Hanna Center. The game is scheduled for a 6 p,m. start and admission is FREE.
