KENNESAW, Ga. -- In just its second true road game of the 2018 season, the Samford University baseball team suffered a 9-3 decision against the Kennesaw State Owls in the opening game of a three-game set being held this weekend at Stillwell Stadium.

With the loss,
Samford (5-5) moved to 1-1 on the road this season. The Bulldogs' first road victory proved to be a thrilling 5-4 come-from-behind triumph over No. 22-ranked UCF on Feb. 18.

Samford and
Kennesaw State (5-6) will resume their three-game, non-conference series Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT).

In Friday's matchup, the Owls struck first with a run in the second and then three more in the third to garner an early 4-0 lead over the Bulldogs.

Samford then answered with two runs in the fourth inning and another in the fifth frame to make it a 6-3 game. The Bulldogs'
Anthony Mulrine turned in a 3-for-4 performance with an RBI and a run scored.
Brooks Carlson,
Troy Dixon and
Austin Edens also added base hits Friday, but Samford was outhit by Kennesaw State, 14-6.

The Owls tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the score 9-3.

Kennesaw State's
Luke Torbin (1-1) earned the victory, while Samford's
Cody Shelton (0-1) was handed the loss.
