TROY, Ala. -- The Samford University baseball team suffered a 14-2 road loss against the Troy Trojans on Tuesday as the teams met in an in-state midweek matchup held at Riddle-Pace Field.

With the loss,
Samford (10-12) had its three-game winning streak snapped. The Bulldogs entered the contest with a full head of steam after earning a three-game sweep of Alabama A&M over the weekend. In the home series, Samford outscored A&M, 18-6, and extended its winning streak in the series to five straight games.

Troy (14-7), which has been nearly unbeatable at home this season, improved to 12-3 when playing at Riddle-Pace Field. The Trojans also improved to 10-3 in its last 13 outings.

With six runs in the bottom of the first inning, Troy quickly took control of the momentum in the contest. The Trojans then added a run in the second frame, two scores in the third and a five-spot in the fifth to make it 14-0.

Austin Edens blasted a single through the left side of the infield in the top of the eighth inning.

Samford scored both of its runs in the top of the seventh stanza as
Connor Burns,
Greg Mula and
Taylor Garris drew consecutive walks to load the bases with one out. Junior
Troy Dixon then sent an RBI groundout to second, but ended up reaching first base on a throwing error. Burns and Mula both scored on the play.

The Bulldogs'
Connor Radcliff (0-1) was issued the loss on the mound, while Troy's
Levi Thomas (1-0) notched the victory.

The Samford University baseball team will next be in action this weekend, Friday through Sunday, as the Bulldogs return home for a SoCon-opening, three-game series against the ETSU Buccaneers to be held at Joe Lee Griffin Field in Birmingham.
