TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Samford softball team dropped a pair of games on the first day of the Easton Crimson Classic, hosted by the University of Alabama Friday at Rhoads Stadium. The Bulldogs fell to Fordham, 4-1 in the first game, and to Boston College, 9-2 in the second game of the day.

In the Fordham game, Hannah Trombley went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead Samford at the plate. Madison Couch had a double in a 1-for-2 performance. Taylor DeCelles (3-5) pitched 7.0 innings, giving up four runs, just one earned, on six hits to take the loss in the circle.

Fordham was led by Skylar Johnston, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Deanna Burbridge drove in two runs, going 1-for-2 at the plate. Paige Rauch (5-1) tossed 6.0 innings, giving up one run on four hits to earn the win for the Rams.

Fordham scored two runs in the second inning and one in the fifth to grab a 3-0 lead. Samford plated its lone run of the game in the fifth inning when Trombley doubled to center field to drive in Couch to cut the lead to 3-1.

Fordham added one final run in the sixth inning to push its lead to 4-1. Neither team could score the rest of the way and Fordham came away with the 4-1 win.

Against Boston College, Whitney Hinton and Shelby Maze went 1-for-3 each to lead Samford. Mekhi Mayfield had the team's lone RBI when she reached on an error, driving in Hinton, while Maze scored on the error. McKenna Gillespie (0-7) pitched 4.1 innings, giving up five runs, just three earned, on four hits to take the loss in the circle for Samford.

For Boston College, C.C. Cook went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Annie Murphy also drove in two runs for the Eagles. Jessica Dreswick (6-4) pitched 6.0 innings, giving up two runs on two hits to pick up the win.

Boston College plated two runs in the fourth inning, three in the fifth and two more in the sixth to grab a 7-0 lead. Samford plated its two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Eagles added two final runs in the seventh inning to make the final score 9-2.

The schedule for Saturday's games has changed due to expected inclement weather. Samford will now play Boston College at 9 a.m., and Fordham at 3 p.m.
