BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team earned a 3-2 (25-14, 11-25, 25-21, 17-25, 19-17) win over Western Carolina in a key Southern Conference match Saturday evening in the Pete Hanna Center.
With the win, Samford improves to 13-5 overall and 7-1 in SoCon play. Western Carolina falls to 12-9 overall and 6-2 in league play.

KEY MOMENTS
- In the first set, Samford jumped out to an 11-4 lead.
- The Bulldogs led the entire way in the first set and came away with the 25-14 win.
- Western Carolina scored the first six points of the second set to take the early lead.
- The Catamounts controlled the set, finishing with the 25-11 win.
- The third set was tight throughout.
- With Samford leading, 22-20, the Bulldogs scored three of the final four points to take the set, 25-21.
- Western Carolina built an early 12-5 lead in the fourth set.
- WCU led throughout the fourth set, eventually earning the 25-17 win.
- In the fifth set, WCU took an early 6-2 lead, but Samford scored the next three points to cut the lead to 6-5.
- With WCU leading, 8-6, Samford scored the next three points to take a 9-8 lead.
- The teams traded points for the next several points until the Catamounts took a 12-10 lead, forcing a Samford timeout.
- Samford then came back to tie the score at 14-14, and the Bulldogs took the set, 19-17, and the match, 3-2.
