Soccer Clinches Share Of Sixth-Straight SoCon Title With 1-0 Win Over Chattanooga

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford soccer team clinched a share of its sixth-straight Southern Conference regular season title with a 1-0 win over Chattanooga Sunday afternoon at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.
 
With the win Samford improves to 10-3-5 overall and 7-1-1 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs share the title with Furman, but Samford will earn the No. 1 seed in the SoCon Tournament due to conference tie-breaker rules. Chattanooga falls to 9-6-3 overall and 4-4-1 in league play.
 
The game was Senior Day for Samford. Seniors Erin Bonner, Keyli Borman, Allie Lourie, Taylor Meneide and Lauren Delp were honored in ceremonies prior to the game.


 
KEY PLAYS
  • Alyssa Frazier scored the lone goal of the match in the 57th minute to give Samford the lead.
  • Chattanooga had a few chances to score, the biggest coming in the 87th minute when Samford goalkeeper Morgan McAslan deflected Bailey Gale's shot, causing it to go high.

  • Frazier's goal was her fourth of the season.
  • Nikki Bario assisted on the goal, her first of the season.
  • Taylor Yount led the team in shots with seven.

  • Samford will host a Southern Conference Tournament quarterfinal game next Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium. Samford will play the winner of Wednesday night's game between ETSU and The Citadel.
