Late Run By Troy Dooms Women's Basketball In 74-65 Loss

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
A late run by Troy doomed the Samford women's basketball team in a 74-65 loss to the Trojans Tuesday night in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 1-2 on the season. Troy improves to 2-0 with the win.


 
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Samford was led by Sarah Myers with a career-high 22 points, while also grabbing eight rebounds.
  • Charity Brown had 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Bulldogs.
  • Natalie Armstrong added eight points and seven rebounds.
  • Kayla Robinson led Troy with 21 points and six rebounds off the bench.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Troy scored the first five points of the game to take a 5-0 lead with 8:57 left in the first quarter after a three-point play by Jasmine Leblanc.
  • Samford fought back to take a 13-8 lead with 3:32 left in the period following a layup by Myers.
  • Samford took a 20-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • Troy fought back to tie the score at 24-24, but Samford scored the next five points to take a 29-24 lead with 3:14 left in the second quarter after a jumper by Myers.
  •  Samford took a 31-29 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • The lead went back and forth through most of the third quarter.
  • Samford built a four-point lead at 50-46 after a three-pointer by Myers with 2:08 left in the third quarter.
  • With the score tied at 51-51, Samford's Raven Omar hit a layup at the third quarter buzzer to give the Bulldogs a 53-51 lead with one quarter to go.
  • Samford built a six-point lead at 61-55 with 6:29 to go in the fourth quarter following a basket by Armstrong.
  • Troy, however, scored the next 11 points to take a 66-61 lead with 2:11 left after a three-pointer by Tiyah Johnson.
  • The Trojans hit several free throws down the stretch to pull away for the 74-65 win.
