MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Samford men's basketball team opened the 2019-20 season with a 90-86 double overtime loss at Morehead State Tuesday evening at Johnson Arena.

• Josh Sharkey scored 24 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists to lead Samford in the game.
• Robert Allen tallied 17 points and six rebounds.
• Jalen Dupree, in his Samford debut, had 10 points and 11 rebounds.
• Brandon Austin had 15 points for the Bulldogs.
• For Morehead State, Jordan Walker led the way with 25 points.
• James Baker added 20 points and seven rebounds.

 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 11-5 lead following a free throw by Allen with 14:47 left in the first half.
• Samford pushed its lead to 11 points at 27-16 with 4:53 left in the first half after two free throws by Logan Dye.
• Morehead State used an 11-0 run to tie the game at 27-27 with 2:17 left in the opening period after a jumper by Walker.
• With Samford leading, 29-27, Morehead State closed the half with an 8-1 run to take a 35-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.
• The game was tight throughout the second half.
• With Samford leading, 70-68, MSU's Walker hit two free throws with one second left to knot the score at 70-70 and force overtime.
• The teams traded baskets throughout the first overtime, and the squads ended the period tied at 76-76, forcing a second overtime period.
• Morehead State jumped out to an 84-78 lead with 2:39 left in the second OT period.
• Samford fought back to cut the lead to just two points on two occasions, but the Bulldogs could not get over the hump as Morehead State came away with the 90-86 win.
