TAMPA, Fla. – Samford's
Branden Fryman opened the season with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate, but the Bulldogs fell by a score of 7-4 at South Florida in the team's season opener Friday evening at the USF Baseball Stadium.
Fryman collected his 38th career multi-hit game of his career. The junior shortstop drove in a run and crossed home twice accounting for three of the four Samford runs in the game.

- Fyrman was the lone Samford player with multiple hits.
- Samuel Strickland took the loss on the mound for the Bulldogs after allowing five earned runs in four innings.
- Luke Corbin and Eric Sottile each held the Bulls scoreless in relief for Samford. Corbin threw two scoreless frames, while Sottile had one scoreless inning.
- USF's Collin Sullivan got the win after six innings of work. He allow just two runs and scattered four hits.
- Nick Gonzalez led the Bulls at the dish after two hits in four trips to the plate including a three run homer to left in the second.
SCORING SUMMARY
- USF scored in the first three innings beginning with a RBI double to center in the first. Gonzalez followed with his three-run homer in the second before the Bulls tacked on their fifth run of the game in the third on a solo homer.
- Samford got on the board in the fourth when Fryman scored on a double to right off the bat of Brooks Carlson.
- The Bulls added a pair of runs in the fifth with a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly.
- Sonny DiChiara cut the deficit down to 7-2 with a RBI single in the sixth and Fryman drove in a run in the seventh on an RBI single up the middle.
- Taylor Garris scored the final run of the game in the ninth on a USF error.
