TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Samford softball team split two games at the Unconquered Invitational, hosted by Florida State University Friday. Samford dropped its first game to Lipscomb, 8-0, but came back to down Elon by a score of 4-0 in the second game.
Samford's record moves to 5-8 with the split. Lipscomb is now 7-4, while Elon has a record of 6-3.

FROM THE BOX SCORE
- Madison Couch, Whitney Hinton and Ashlyn Barnes had one hit each for Samford.
- Lacey Spear (3-2) gave up four runs on one hit to take the loss.
- For Lipscomb, Graysen Gladden went 4-for-4 at the plate. Khayla Green hit a three-run home run for the Bisons in a 1-for-3 performance.
- Mandy Jordan (2-2) earned the win in the circle, tossing 7.0 innings and allowing no runs on three hits.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Lipscomb jumped on top with five runs on just one hit in the top of the first inning.
- The Bisons added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to push their lead to 7-0.
- Lipscomb plated one final run in the top of the seventh inning to make the final score 8-0.

FROM THE BOX SCORE
- McKenna Gillespie (2-0) tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout, pitching all 7.0 innings to earn the victory.
- Madison Couch went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Samford.
- Timberlyn Shurbutt drove in a run on a solo home run in a 1-for-3 performance.
- Abby Barker (4-1) took the loss for the Phoenix, pitching 4.0 innings, and giving up three runs on six hits.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Samford jumped on top early with a run in the top of the first inning. Amanda Briskin scored when Mekhi Mayfield reached base on a fielder's choice for a 1-0 Bulldog lead.
- The Bulldogs added two more runs in the top of the third inning. Shurbutt hit a solo home run for the first run of the inning. Maddie Dorsett later scored on a sacrifice fly by Hannah Trombley for a 3-0 Samford lead.
- Samford plated another run in the top of the sixth inning. Couch singled up the middle to drive in Kelsey Royalty to make the score 4-0.
