TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Samford softball team dropped a 13-1 decision in five innings at No. 1 Florida State on the final day of the Unconquered Invitational Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, Samford falls to 5-11 on the season. Florida State improves to 17-0 with the win.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
- Freshman Merritt Cahoon got Samford's lone hit in the game in a 1-for-2 performance.
- Kathryn Jackson scored Samford's lone run of the day.
- McKenna Gillespie (2-1) gave up six runs on four hits to take the loss for the Bulldogs.
- For Florida State, Dani Morgan and Sydney Sherrill had a three-run home run each.
- Meghan King (8-0) pitched 3.0 innings, giving up one run on one hit to earn the win for the Seminoles.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Florida State plated seven runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead. Sherrill and Morgan each hit three-run homers to account for most of the offense in the inning as FSU took a 7-0 lead.
- In the top of the second inning, Samford scored a run to cut the lead to 7-1. Jackson walked to lead off the inning and later scored on an FSU error.
- FSU added three runs in the second inning, two runs in the third and one in the fourth to make the final 13-1.

Samford will play at Jacksonville State on Wednesday, Feb. 27. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start from Jacksonville, Ala.
