LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Samford softball team split a pair of games Friday at the Cowgirl Classic, hosted by McNeese State. In the team's first game of the day, Samford fell to Lipscomb, 7-0, but the Bulldogs bounced back to take a 4-2 win over the host, McNeese State in the nightcap.
With the split, Samford is now 1-2 on the young season. McNeese State is now 1-1, while Lipscomb has a record of 2-0.

FROM THE BOX SCORE
- Samford freshman pitcher Lacey Spear (1-0) earned the win in her collegiate debut. She pitched the complete 7.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits to pick up the victory.
- Whitney Hinton went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead Samford at the plate.
- Madison Couch and Kathryn Jackson also drove in a run each for the Bulldogs.
- Demi Boudreaux led McNeese State at the plate, going 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
- Caroline Settle (0-1) took the loss in the circle for MSU, tossing 5.0 innings and allowing four runs on five hits.
SCORING SUMMARY
- McNeese State got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the third inning on a two-run home run by Boudreaux, giving the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead.
- Samford took the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth inning. The first two runs came on back-to-back RBI doubles by Hinton and Couch.
- Couch scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice bunt by Jackson for a 3-2 Samford lead in the fourth.
- The Bulldogs added a run in the top of the fifth inning on another RBI single by Hinton for a 4-2 Samford lead.

- Maddie Dorsett tallied Samford's lone hit of the game, going 1-for-3 with a single in the first inning.
- Taylor DeCelles (0-1) pitched the complete 7.0 innings, allowing seven runs, five earned, on 12 hits to take the loss.
- Katie Turner (1-0) tossed 7.0 innings, giving up no runs on one hit to earn the win for the Bisons.
- Turner also went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI to lead Lipscomb at the plate.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Lipscomb jumped on top first with three runs in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly and a pair of RBI singles.
- The Bisons added a run in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Tuner for a 4-0 lead.
- Lipscomb plated three more runs, two unearned, in the seventh inning to push its lead to 7-0.
