BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team dropped a 6-1 decision at UAB Wednesday night at Mary Bowers Field.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 9-18 on the season. UAB improves to 9-15 with the win.
 
FROM THE BOX SCORE
	- Hannah Trombley hit a solo home run in a 1-for-3 performance to lead Samford at the plate.
- MeKenna Gillespie (2-3) took the loss for Samford, pitching 2.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
- For UAB, Sierra Frazier went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
- Destini England went 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Blazers.
- Emily Kachel (2-4) earned the win for the Blazers, tossing 7.0 innings, and allowing one run on three hits.
SCORING SUMMARY
	- Samford jumped on top first with a run in the top of the first inning on a solo home run by Trombley to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
- UAB came back with three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. Jenna Olszewski singled to drive in Dylinn Stancil for the inning's first run. Frazier then hit a two-run home run to left field to give the Blazers a two-run lead.
- The Blazers added two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to push their lead to 5-1. England singled to right field to drive in Reece Martin for the first run of the inning. Ashton Clem later scored on a sacrifice fly by Natalie Erwin.
- UAB plated another run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the final score 6-1. England singled through the right side of the infield to drive in Olszewski for a five-run Blazer lead.
LOOKING AHEAD
Samford will play three games in Oxford, Miss. this weekend. The Bulldogs will take on Ole Miss Friday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m., and Samford will play Oklahoma State Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
