Softball Drops Friday Night Contest At Ole Miss

OXFORD, Miss. –
The Samford softball team fell by a score of 15-2 in five innings at Ole Miss Friday night at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 9-19 on the season. Ole Miss improves to 18-7 with the win.
 
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Madison Couch went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI to lead Samford at the plate in the loss.
  • Kelsey Royalty also drove in a run for the Bulldogs.
  • Annalyn Yantis (0-5) pitched 2.0 innings, giving up six runs on six hits to take the loss in the circle for Samford.
  • Abbey Latham went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI to lead the Rebels at the plate.
  • Gabby Alvarez hit a grand slam in her lone at-bat of the game for the Rebels.
  • Brittany Finney (5-4) pitched 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits to earn the win for Ole Miss.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • Samford jumped out to an early lead with a run in the top of the first inning. Couch doubled to right-center field to drive in Ashlyn Barnes for a 1-0 Samford lead.
  • Ole Miss then scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, two runs in the second inning and four more in the third inning to take a 10-1 lead.
  • Samford added its second run in the top of the fourth inning. Couch scored on a ground out by Royalty to cut the lead to 10-2.
  • Ole Miss plated five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, with four coming on Alvarez's grand slam to make the final score 15-2.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Samford will remain in Oxford, Miss., to take on 18th-ranked Oklahoma State Saturday at 1 p.m.
