OXFORD, Miss. – The Samford softball team fell to the 18
th-ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls by a score of 8-0 Saturday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
With the loss, Samford falls to 9-20 on the season. Oklahoma State improves to 20-5 with the win.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
- Timberlyn Shurbutt went 2-for-3 to lead Samford at the plate.
- Taylor DeCelles (2-8) took the loss in the circle for Samford, pitching 3.0 innings, giving up six runs on five hits.
- Chyenne Factor went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI to lead Oklahoma State at the plate.
- Chelsea Alexander also hit a solo home run in her lone at-bat.
- Samantha Clakley (5-1) pitched 7.0 innings, giving up no runs on six hits to earn the win for the Cowgirls.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Oklahoma State jumped out to an early lead with one run in the top of the first inning. Rylee Bayless scored on a sacrifice fly by Madi Sue Montgomery for a 1-0 OSU lead.
- OSU added four runs in the third inning to push its lead to 5-0. Three of the runs came on a home run by Factor.
- The Cowgirls plated another run in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth to push their lead to 7-0.
- Oklahoma State added one final run in the top of the seventh inning to make the final score 8-0.
LOOKING AHEAD
Samford will wrap up the weekend with a game at Ole Miss Sunday. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
