BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team dropped two games on the second day of the Samford Invitational Saturday at the Samford Softball Stadium. Samford fell to Evansville, 4-3, and then the Bulldogs dropped an 8-1 decision to Western Kentucky. Due to expected inclement weather on Sunday, the final day of the tournament has been canceled.
With the losses, Samford falls to 6-15 on the season. Evansville is currently 7-8, while Western Kentucky improves to 13-2.

FROM THE BOX SCORE
- Madison Couch went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI to lead Samford at the plate.
- Taylor DeCelles (0-7) pitched 2.0 innings in relief, giving up two runs on three hits to take the loss in the circle.
- Katie McLean led Evansville at the plate, going 3-for-3, and scoring two runs.
- Emily Lockhart (4-3) pitched 4.0 innings in relief, allowing no runs on two hits to earn the win for the Purple Aces.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Samford plated two runs in the second inning and another run in the third to take a 3-0 lead.
- Evansville came back with one run in the fourth inning and two in the fifth to knot the score at 3-3.
- Evansville added a run in the top of the seventh inning to take the 4-3 win.

- Hannah Trombley hit a solo home run in a 1-for-2 performance to lead Samford at the plate.
- Lacey Spear (4-3) took the loss, tossing 3.0 innings and allowing six runs, five earned, on five hits.
- For Western Kentucky, Rebekah Engelhardt went 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI.
- Kennedy Sullivan (9-0) earned the win as the pitcher, striking out 17 batters, and also had a strong performance at the plate. She went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs for the Hilltoppers.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Western Kentucky scored five runs in the top of the first inning to take a commanding early lead.
- The Hilltoppers added a run in the third inning and another in the sixth to make the score 7-0.
- Samford plated its lone run of the game on Trombley's homer in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 7-1.
- Western Kentucky added one final run in the seventh inning to make the final score 8-1.

Samford will next play at Troy Wednesday evening. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start from Troy, Ala.
