TROY, Ala. – The Samford softball team earned a 5-3 road win at in-state rival Troy Wednesday night at the Troy Softball Complex.
With the win, Samford improves to 7-15 on the season. Troy falls to 16-7 with the loss.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
- Mekhi Mayfield went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI to lead Samford at the plate.
- Hannah Trombley drove in three runs, going 1-for-4 with a double.
- Emily Barnett (1-0) pitched 2.0 innings, giving up one run on two hits to earn the win for Samford.
- Troy was led by Katie Webb, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
- Bailey Taylor also went 2-for-3 for the Trojans.
- Leanna Johnson (10-3) took the loss, tossing 1.2 innings, giving up three runs on four hits.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Troy jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
- Samford came back to tie the score with two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Mayfield doubled to right-center field, driving in Ashlyn Barnes and Whitney Hinton to knot the score at 2-2.
- Samford took the lead for good with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Trombley doubled to left-center field to drive in Madison Couch, Kelsey Royalty and Mayfield for a 5-2 Samford lead.
- Troy plated one final run in the bottom of the seventh to make the final score 5-3.

Samford will travel to Murray, Ky., to take part in the Racer Classic, Sunday and Monday.
