Bulldog Bites: Volume 34

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The baseball and softball teams got their Southern Conference seasons off to a hot start by winning key series last week. This week, another full slate of action for Samford's spring sports is ahead.
 
BASEBALL
The Samford baseball team posted a record of 3-1 in its four games last week. The Bulldogs dropped a 6-4 decision to second-ranked Mississippi State Wednesday night. The team then opened Southern Conference play by sweeping Furman by scores of 8-4, 14-4 and 3-0. Outfielder Jordan Fucci earned Southern Conference Player of the Week honors for his efforts.
 
This week, the baseball team will play at cross-town rival UAB Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Regions Field. This weekend, the Bulldogs will travel to VMI for a three-game SoCon series. The teams are scheduled to play Friday at 5 p.m. (CT), Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) and Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT). For links to follow the games, click on the link below.

SOFTBALL
The Samford softball team went an impressive 4-1 in five games last week. The team swept a midweek doubleheader from Tennessee Tech, winning by scores of 12-8 and 11-3. Samford then won two-of-three games at defending SoCon champion UNCG. After dropping the first game, 9-0, Samford bounced back to take the final two games by scores of 5-2 and 7-4.
 
The softball team will host Furman in a three-game SoCon series this weekend. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m., and a single game Sunday, also at 1 p.m. Saturday's game is Dollar hot dog day at the Samford Softball Stadium. TRACK & FIELD
The Samford track and field teams competed in the South Alabama Invitational in Mobile last weekend. The Bulldogs earned individual titles in the men's 100 meters, women's 200 meters, women's 400 meters, men's 1,500 meters, women's 3,000 meters, men's 110 meter hurdles, women's 4x100 meter relay, women's pole vault, women's long jump, women's triple jump, women's discus and men's javelin.
 
This week, the Bulldogs will compete in the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State, Thursday through Saturday. Full results will be posted to www.samfordsports.com following the completion of the meet.
 
MEN'S GOLF
The men's golf team finished tied for 10th out of 21 teams at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C., last weekend. Harlan Winn led Samford in the event, tying for 17th with a score of 216 (71-72-73).
 
The men's golf team will next compete in the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate, April 8-9 in Nashville, Tenn.
 
WOMEN'S GOLF
The women's golf team took the week off from competition.
 
This week, the women's golf team will compete in the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate, March 31-April 2, hosted by Georgia State University in Stockbridge, Ga. To follow the action, click on the link below.

MEN'S TENNIS
The men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at ETSU Sunday afternoon.
 
This week, the Bulldogs will host UNCG Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Samford Tennis Center. A full recap and results will be posted to www.samfordsports.com following the completion of the match.
 
WOMEN'S TENNIS
The women's tennis team split two matches last week. The Bulldogs earned a 4-3 win at Mercer Thursday afternoon. The team then dropped a 7-0 contest to ETSU Saturday.
 
This week, the Bulldogs will play two matches in the state of North Carolina. The team will play at UNCG Saturday at 11 a.m. (CT), and at Western Carolina Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT). A full recap and results will be posted to www.samfordsports.com following the completion of each match.
