BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team swept a Southern Conference doubleheader from Furman Saturday afternoon at the Samford Softball Stadium. The Bulldogs defeated the Paladins by scores of 7-2 and 9-4.
With the sweep, Samford improves to 15-22 overall and 4-1 in Southern Conference play. Furman falls to 9-22 overall and 1-4 in league contests. Samford head coach
Mandy Burford-Johnson became the first coach in program history to reach the 200-win mark in their career. Burford-Johnson now has a school-record 201 career wins.
GAME 1: SAMFORD 7, FURMAN 2

- Timberlyn Shurbutt, Whitney Hinton and Kathryn Jackson each homered for Samford in the game one victory.
- Hinton, Jackson and Hannah Trombley drove in two runs each for the Bulldogs.
- Annalyn Yantis (3-5) pitched the complete 7.0 innings, allowing two runs on six hits to earn the win.
- For Furman, Cammy Pereita went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the first game.
- Marissa Guimbarda (0-2) pitched 3.0 innings, allowing four runs on four hits to take the loss for the Paladins.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Samford scored a run in the first inning, but Furman came back to take a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning.
- Samford came back with three runs in the third inning to take a 4-2 advantage.

- Maddie Dorsett went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for the Bulldogs.
- Taylor DeCelles (3-9) pitched 5.1 innings in relief, giving up just three hits and striking out five batters to earn the win for Samford.
- For Furman, Natalie Morgan drove in two runs in the second contest.
- Emily DeMonte (8-11) took the loss for Furman, tossing 4.0 innings and allowing seven runs on seven hits.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Furman scored a run in the first inning and three more in the second to take an early 4-0 lead.
- Samford, however, came back with two runs in the second inning and one in the third to cut the lead to 4-3.
- The Bulldogs took the lead for good with four runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-4 advantage.
- Samford added a run in the fifth inning and another in the sixth to make the final score 9-4.
