BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team completed its three-game series sweep of ETSU with a 10-2 win in six innings Saturday afternoon at the Samford Softball Stadium.
With the win, Samford improves to 20-25 overall and 9-3 in Southern Conference play. ETSU falls to 17-19-2 overall and 3-6 in league play.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
- Samford was led by Hannah Trombley, going 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and four RBI.
- Kelsey Royalty went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
- Madison Couch drove in three runs in a 1-for-3 performance at the plate.
- Taylor DeCelles (7-9) pitched 6.0 innings, giving up two runs on five hits, and striking out seven batters without allowing a walk to earn the win for the Bulldogs.
- For ETSU, Kylie Toler homered and drove in two runs, going 1-for-2 at the plate.
- MacKenzie Dyson (3-4) pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 10 runs on six hits in taking the loss in the circle for the Bucs.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Samford jumped on top first when Trombley hit a two-run home run to center field to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
- The Bulldogs added four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to push their lead to 6-0. Couch hit a three-run double to center field, and Royalty singled to drive in a run to give Samford a six-run lead.
- ETSU plated two runs in the top of the sixth inning on a home run by Toler to cut the lead to 6-2.
- Samford ended the game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Trombley doubled to center field, driving in the first two runs. Royalty later singled, driving in two more runs and giving Samford the 10-2 win.
LOOKING AHEAD
Samford will host Mercer in a Southern Conference series next weekend. The teams are set to play a doubleheader Friday at 4 p.m., and a single game Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Samford Softball Stadium.
