Baseball Falls In Friday Night Game At ETSU, 2-1

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. –
The Samford baseball team dropped a 2-1 decision in the second game of a three-game Southern Conference series at ETSU Friday evening at Thomas Stadium.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 38-17 overall and 18-5 in league games. ETSU improves to 32-18 overall and 11-11 in league games.
 
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Preston Moore drove in Samford's lone run, going 1-for-2 at the plate.
  • Branden Fryman, Anthony Mulrine, Taylor Garris and Sam Teague also had one hit each.
  • Zach Hester (7-4) pitched 2.0 innings, giving up one run on three hits to take the loss on the mound for Samford.
  • ETSU was led by Jake Lyle, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
  • Landon Knack (7-2) pitched 6.0 innings, giving up no runs on three hits to earn the win on the mound for the Bucs.
  • Nathaniel Tate picked up his second save of the season, tossing 3.0 innings, giving up one run on two hits.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • ETSU jumped on top first with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Noah Hill doubled to left field to drive in Cullen Smith for a 1-0 Bucs' lead.
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, ETSU's Lyle singled to left field to drive in Ethan Cady to push the Bucs' lead to 2-0.
  • Samford cut the ETSU lead to 2-1 when Anthony Mulrine scored on a sacrifice fly by Moore in the top of the seventh inning.

Samford and ETSU will conclude their three-game series with a game Saturday afternoon. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. (CT) start from Johnson City, Tennessee.
