GREENVILLE, S.C. – Three errors proved costly as the top-seeded Samford baseball team dropped a 5-2 decision to second-seeded Wofford in the Southern Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon at Fluor Field.
With the loss, Samford falls to 41-18 on the season, and the Bulldogs will play in an elimination game tonight. Wofford has a mark of 36-23 and advances to Sunday's championship round.

- Sonny DiChiara went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI to lead Samford at the plate.
- The home run was DiChiara's 20th of the season, marking just the third player in school history to hit 20 homers in a single season.
- Samuel Strickland (7-3) pitched 4.1 innings, giving up three runs, just one earned, to take the loss on the mound for Samford.
- For Wofford, Hudson Byorick went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
- Cameron Bloodworth (3-2) pitched 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on six hits to earn the win on the mound for the Terriers.
- Reece Maniscalco picked up his sixth save of the season, pitching the final 3.2 innings, without allowing a hit.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Samford plated a run in the top of the first inning. DiChiara singled to left field to drive in Branden Fryman for a 1-0 Samford lead.
- Wofford knotted the score with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Lawson Hill tripled down the right field line to drive in Byorick to make the score 1-1.
- The Terriers took the lead with two unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Colin Davis scored on a sacrifice bunt, and Andrew Orzel scored on a single by Mike Brown to give Wofford a 3-1 lead.
- Samford got one run back in the top of the sixth inning when DiChiara homered to left field to cut the Wofford lead to 3-2.
- Wofford added two more unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to push its lead to 5-2. Byorick doubled to left field to drive in Brown and Reed Massey for a three-run Terrier advantage.
LOOKING AHEAD
Samford will play again tonight at 6 p.m. (CT) in an elimination game against the winner of today's second game between ETSU and Mercer. The winner of tonight's game will have to win two games tomorrow against Wofford to win the tournament.
