BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's basketball team dropped a70-63 Southern Conference decision to UNCG Saturday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
The loss drops Samford's record to 8-14 overall and 2-6 in SoCon play. UNCG improves to 16-5 overall and 6-2 in league games.

• Brandon Austin led Samford with 20 points.
• Josh Sharkey followed with 17 points and five assists.
• Jalen Dupree contributed 13 points.
• Robert Allen had nine points and nine rebounds.
• UNCG was led by Isaiah Miller with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• Samford got off to a fast start, racing out to a 7-2 lead with 15:32 left in the first half after a three-pointer by Austin.
• With Samford leading, 10-4, UNCG went on a 17-2 run to take a 21-12 lead with 9:59 remaining in the first period after a three-pointer by Michael Hueitt.
• With UNCG leading, 29-18, Samford scored the next five points to cut the lead to 29-23 with 4:08 to go in the first half after a layup by Allen.
• UNCG took a 35-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.
• In the second half, Samford fought back to tie the score at 37-37 with 13:32 left in the half after a layup by Sharkey.
• The score remained tight through the remainder of the game.
• Samford cut the lead to three points at 66-63 with 30 seconds to go.
• UNCG, however, hit several key free throws down the stretch to hold on for the 70-63 win.
