Men’s Basketball Battles Georgia To The Wire Before Falling, 79-75

ATHENS, Ga. –
Myron Gordon scored a career-high 29 points, but the Samford men's basketball team fell in a hard-fought contest at Georgia, 79-75, Saturday night at Stegeman Coliseum.
 
Samford led for most of the game until 1:17 left in the contest when Georgia took its first lead. With the loss, Samford falls to 2-2 on the young season. Georgia improves to 5-0 with the win.

  • Gordon made 9-of-14 shots from the floor, including 4-of-8 from three-point range for his career-high total.
  • Christian Guess had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Richardson Maitre added 12 points and five assists for Samford.
  • Georgia was led by Justin Kier with 18 points.

  • Samford jumped out to an early 9-5 lead with 16:51 left in the first half after a three-pointer by Gordon.
  • Samford built its lead to 24-11 with 8:45 to go in the first half after a three-pointer by Triston Chambers.
  • Georgia scored the next six points to cut the lead to 24-17 with 5:26 left in the half following a free throw by Tye Fagan.
  • Samford pushed the lead back out to double digits at 32-21 with 3:06 remaining in the first half after a layup by Gordon.
  • Georgia cut the lead to four at 34-30 with 38 seconds left before halftime after a layup by P.J. Horne.
  • Samford took a 35-31 lead into the locker room at halftime.
