KENNESAW, Ga. – A put-back by
Jacob Tryon with just four seconds left gave the Samford men's basketball team the lead for good in a 65-63 win at Kennesaw State Saturday afternoon.
Tryon's basket gave Samford a 64-63 lead, and then
Richardson Maitre came up with a steal, and his free throw with eight-tenths of a second to go made the final score 65-63.
With the win, Samford improves to 3-3 so far this season. Kennesaw State falls to 3-4 with the loss.

- Myron Gordon led Samford in the win with 17 points, all in the second half.
- A.J. Staton-McCray had 14 points and seven rebounds for Samford.
- Logan Dye had 11 points, while Tryon finished with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
- Kennesaw State was led by Chris Youngblood with 19 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kennesaw State jumped out to an early 8-2 lead with 16:52 to go in the first half after a jumper by Spencer Rodgers.
- Samford answered with a 7-0 run to take a 9-8 lead with 15:07 to go in the first half after a layup by K.J. Davis.
- The Bulldogs built a five-point lead at 21-16 with 9:07 left in the opening half following a layup by Dye.
- After KSU cut the lead to 21-20, Samford went on a 6-0 run to make the score 27-20 after a three-pointer by Tryon with 5:21 left in the first half.
- KSU took a brief 30-29 lead, but Staton-McCray answered with back-to-back three-pointers to give Samford a 35-30 lead with 2:24 left before halftime.
- Samford took a 39-32 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- Kennesaw State opened the second half with a 12-0 run to take a 44-39 lead with 15:40 to go in the second half after a layup by Alex Peterson.
- Samford scored the next six points to take a 45-44 lead after a three-point play by Gordon with 12:34 left in the second half.
- KSU came back to take a 53-47 lead after a jumper by Rodgers with 9:53 remaining in the second half.
- With Samford trailing, 60-56, the Bulldogs went on a 6-0 run to take a 62-60 lead with 1:03 to go after a layup by Gordon.
- A three-pointer by KSU's Jamie Lewis gave the Owls a 63-62 lead with 19 seconds to go.
- Tryon then gave Samford the 64-63 lead with a put-back with just four seconds left.
- Maitre's free throw with eight-tenths of a second to go ended the scoring with a 65-63 Samford win.
