Abby Swaney (2-0) tossed a complete game, three-hit shutout to lead the Samford University softball team to a split at the LSU Classic on Saturday at Yvette Girouard Field. Swaney pitched the Bulldogs to a 3-0 victory over North Dakota before Samford fell 7-0 to No. 13 Louisiana in the second game of the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)
- Whitney Hinton put the Bulldogs up 1-0 in the top of the 3rd inning on an RBI single to right, scoring Laney Parks from second.
- Samford stretched the lead to 3-0 in the top of the 4th, as Parks drew a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and Mekhi Mayfield delivered a sac-fly RBI to left.
- North Dakota had scoring opportunities in three separate innings, but Abby Swaney worked out of the jams each time.
IN THE CIRCLE (GM1)
- Abb Abby Swaney (2-0) tossed a complete game, three-hit shutout for the Bulldogs in her third career start. The freshman from Springville, Ala., scattered three hits over the course of the start while walking five and striking out five.
- UND's Jannay Jones (1-2) worked all 7.0 innings in the loss. The right-handed pitcher allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)
- Alissa Dalton put the Ragin' Cajuns up 4-0 with a grand slam to right field in the bottom of the 1st inning.
- Louisiana extended the lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the 3rd on Raina O'Neal's solo home run to right.
- A dropped fly ball led to an insurance run for the Ragin' Cajuns, who led 6-0, in the bottom of the 4th inning.
- Sarah Hudek's RBI single to right-center, scoring Kourtney Gremillion, put Louisiana up 7-0 in the bottom of the 6th.
IN THE CIRCLE (GM2)
- Taylor DeCelles (1-2) took the loss in game two for the Bulldogs. The senior from Powder Springs, Ga., finished the day with 6.0 inning pitched and a season-high nine strikeouts while giving up seven runs on 11 hits.
- Summer Ellyson (4-0) earned the win with a complete game, one-hit shutout. She closed the day with a walk and seven strikeouts.
NOTABLES
- Kolby Holcombe led the Bulldogs at the plate versus North Dakota, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles. Grace Robertson, Hinton, and Parks also collected one hit apiece.
- Swaney (2-0) tossed her first career shutout for Samford in game one versus North Dakota. The freshman also tied her season-high for innings pitched (7) against the Eagles.
- Amanda Briskin led Samford at the plate versus No. 13 Louisiana, going 1-for-3 with a single.
