BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader on the second day of the Samford Tournament, losing to DePaul in the first game, 8-2 and falling to Georgia Tech in a pitcher's duel, 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Samford versus DePaul matchup had all the makings of a pitcher's duel through the first three innings, with Emily Barnett's no-hitter bid being broken with 3.2 innings pitched.
- Samford broke through on offense in the fourth inning with back-to-back singles from Whitney Hinton and O'Neil Roberson. Grace Dabbs out of the seventh-hole, had a single up the middle that drove in two runs giving the Bulldogs the lead going into the fifth inning.
- DePaul responded in the top of the fifth with a two-run home run, and a four-run onslaught in top of the fourth, en route to an 8-2 victory over Samford.
- In the nightcap, Georgia Tech took an early lead in the top of the third inning.
- The pitcher's duel continued until the seventh inning, when Georgia Tech pushed across an insurance run, and the Bulldogs were unable to mount a seventh-inning comeback.

IN THE CIRCLE
- Against DePaul, Barnett (1-1) took the loss in the Bulldogs first game of the day, giving up five runs on five hits in 5.2 innings pitched.
- DePaul's Krista Dalgarn (4-2) got the win for the Demon's giving up two runs on seven hits in her 7.0 innings pitched.
- Freshman Abby Swaney (3-1) got the start against Georgia Tech and took the loss in a close pitcher's duel, giving up two runs on five hits with eight strikeouts in 7.0 innings pitched.
- For the Yellow Jackets, Blake Neleman (2-1) grabbed the win giving up just four hits in the shutout with nine strikeouts.
NOTABLESÂ
- Dabb's single to center field drove in the Bulldogs only runs in the bottom of the fourth inning against DePaul.
- Four Bulldogs had hits for Samford against Georgia Tech: Roberson, Hinton, Ryan Brzozoski and Amanda Briskin.
