BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team closed the Samford Tournament with a 6-5 victory over Georgia Tech, the program's first victory of an ACC opponent since 1999.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The defense was strong early behind senior left-handed pitcher, Taylor DeCelles.
- Whitney Hinton gave the Bulldogs the early lead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first.
- The Bulldogs' shutout continued with freshman Grace Robertson going yard with her first career home run in the bottom of the third, giving Samford a 5-0 lead over Georgia Tech.
- The Yellow Jackets mounted a comeback in the top of the sixth inning with a four-run effort.
- Georgia Tech pushed across the tying run in the top of the seventh, giving the Bulldogs an opportunity to walk-off in the bottom of the inning.
- In the bottom of the seventh, back-to-back singles from seniors Kathryn Jackson and Maddie Dorsett, set the Bulldogs up for success.
- Grace Dabbs came in to pinch run for Jackson, and scored on a Robertson sac fly to right field.
IN THE CIRCLE
- Against the Yellow Jackets, DeCelles got the start in the circle, and gave up four runs on four hits in her 5.1 innings of work.
- Emily Barnett came on in relief for her second appearance of the weekend, giving up one run on one hit in her 1.2 innings.
- Barnett (2-1) got the win for the Bulldogs, with Lexi Ray (0-3) taking the loss for the Yellow Jackets.
NOTABLES
- This is the first win for the Bulldogs against an ACC opponent since 1999.
- With her home run in the first inning, Hinton moved into second place all-time in career home runs with 33, just two shy of tying the program record.
- Robertson got her second career start at first base against the Yellow Jackets.
- In the third inning, Robertson hit her first career home run, and had four RBI on the day.
- Robertson's deep fly to right field scored Dabbs to give the Bulldogs a walk-off victory.

- Samford will go on the road next weekend for the Jacksonville State Tournament Friday, February 28 at 12 p.m., against University of Texas at San Antonio, before taking on the hosts, Jacksonville State at 2:30 p.m.
