BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University softball team split its two games on the second day of the Samford Softball Tournament. The Bulldogs hot bats secured the comeback victory against Akron in the first game, but the Eastern Illinois 11-run fifth inning stunned the Bulldogs in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Against Akron, the Bulldogs had a brief lead in the third inning, but trailed by six runs heading into the bottom of the sixth.
- The Bulldogs scored seven unanswered runs to take the lead, and held the Zips after a throw from centerfielder, Mekhi Mayfield, to catcher, Kathryn Jackson sealed the win for Samford.
- Against Eastern Illinois, The Bulldogs took control in the fourth inning with a six-run onslaught, but gave up 11 runs in the top of the fifth inning.
IN THE CIRCLE
- Against Akron, Megan Robertson (1-1) gave up two runs on four hits in 2.2 innings, taking the circle to help the Bulldogs secure the comeback victory.
- Against Eastern Illinois, Robertson (1-2) takes the loss giving up eight runs on seven hits in 0.1 innings pitched.
NOTABLES
- The Bulldogs seven runs in the sixth inning against Akron is the most Samford has scored in an inning this season.
