MIAMI, Fla. – The Samford softball team opened the FIU Tournament with a 1-0 loss to Tulsa, Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The evening matchup between the Bulldogs and the Golden Hurricane was certainly a pitching duel with Abby Swaney getting the start in the circle for Samford.
Swaney pitched a one-hit shutout through the fourth inning, before an error gave Tulsa an early baserunner in the bottom of the fifth. The single run the Golden Hurricane scored in the fifth would be the game's only run.

IN THE CIRCLE

Swaney (4-2) took the loss for the Bulldogs giving up one run and two hits with two walks and a strikeout.
Chenise Delce (6-3) got the win for Tulsa giving up no runs and five hits in the nightcap.

NOTABLES

This was Samford's first meeting with the Golden Hurricane.
Five Bulldogs got a hit off Delce: Maddie Dorsett, Whitney Hinton, Timberlyn Shurbutt, Merritt Cahoon and Amanda Briskin.
