MIAMI, Fla. – The Samford University Softball team fell to Ball State 2-0 and Maryland 11-3 on the final day of the Florida International University Invitational at Felsberg Field on Sunday, March 8.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 1
- Ball State took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning, as Katie Janiga's RBI single to left scored Gabby Magnifico from second.
- Becca Clanton put Ball State up 2-0 in the bottom of the 6th, scoring on a fielder's choice.
IN THE CIRCLE | GM 1
- Taylor DeCelles worked 6.0 innings allowing just two runs, one earned, on four hits in the loss for Samford. The senior from Powder Springs, Ga., walked three and struck out six.
- D. Jones earned the complete game shutout while allowing two hits in 7.0 innings. She walked two and finished with six strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 2
- Maryland took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st on Anna Kafta's sac-fly RBI.
- Samford answered back in the bottom of the frame on Kathryn Jackson's RBI single and Timberlyn Shurbutt's RBI double.
- Regan Karr's three-RBI double put the Terrapins up 4-2 in the top of the 2nd inning.
- The Bulldogs answered back in the bottom of the 3rd on Whitney Hinton's solo home run.
- Maryland plated four runs in the top of the 4th and added three additional runs in the top of the 5th to claim an 11-3 victory.
IN THE CIRCLE | GM 2
- Samford's Megan Robertson started game two, tossing 3.0 innings while giving up six runs, four earned, on six hits in the loss. Emily Barnett, McKenna Gillespie and Lacy Spear all pitched in relief for the Bulldogs.
- Trinity Schlotterbeck threw 5.0 innings for Maryland in the win, allowing three runs on five hits.
NOTABLES
- Hinton connected on her 34th career home run in game two versus Maryland.
