FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Samford Brings Back Football In 1984

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- This week's Flashback Friday features Samford reinstating its football program in 1984 after a decade without the sport.

Following the 1973 football season, Samford discontinued its program and the school spent a decade with no football team. In 1984, under the leadership of then president Dr. Thomas E. Corts, Samford brought the program back at the NCAA Division III level.

That first season included a dramatic 38-33 win over Sewanee in the season finale.  Four years later, Samford moved up to the NCAA Division I-FCS (then I-AA) level, where the Bulldogs have experienced success, including reaching the FCS Playoffs three times in the last seven seasons.

This week's Flashback Friday is sponsored by Cook's Pest Control.
