Armstrong Reaches Milestone In WBB’s 84-49 Win At Western Carolina

CULLOWHEE, N.C. –
Samford senior center Natalie Armstrong became just the ninth player in program history to score 1,000 career points in the Bulldog women's basketball team's 84-49 win at Western Carolina Thursday night.
 
Armstrong led the team with 19 points in the win, moving her into eighth place in school history with 1,011 career points.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 5-6 overall and 2-0 in Southern Conference play. Western Carolina falls to 3-8 overall and 1-1 in league play.

  • Armstrong made 7-of-11 shots from the floor, including 2-of-3 from three-point range.
  • Andrea Cournoyer followed Armstrong with 17 points for the Bulldogs.
  • Annie Ramil and Mallory Hampton added 12 points each for Samford.
  • Tembre Moates led Western Carolina with 12 points.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Samford jumped out to an early 9-2 lead with 7:55 to go in the first quarter after a layup by Cournoyer.
  • The Bulldogs built their lead to 13 points in the first quarter at 22-9.
  • Samford held a 22-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • Samford opened the second quarter with a 17-0 run to take a 39-12 lead with 4:10 to go in the quarter after a three-pointer by Katie Allen.
  • The Bulldogs took a 46-22 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
  • Samford pushed its lead to 54-26 with 4:57 left in the third period after a three-pointer by Armstrong.
  • Samford held a 64-37 lead at the end of the third quarter.
  • Samford led by as many as 35 points in the fourth quarter, and the Bulldogs finished with an 84-49 victory.

  • Samford will play at Western Carolina again Saturday. The game is set for a 1 p.m. (CT) start from the Ramsey Center.
