HOW IT HAPPENED:
Wofford opened on 3-0 run before the Bulldogs pulled back within striking distance behind a pair of service aces from
Andie Salasky. The squads exchanged mini-runs until Wofford opened a 17-13 advantage forcing a Samford timeout. Wofford won the race to 20, but the Bulldogs would not go away quietly with kills from
Lauren Deaton and
Gracie Lynn Butler to cut the Terrier lead to three. However, the Samford run fell short as Wofford took the opening set 25-17.
The early part of the second set was a back-and-forth affair as the sides traded points before Samford went on a three-point run capped by a service ace from
Emily Naubert to take a 12-9 lead forcing a timeout from the home side. Out of the timeout, Wofford made a run taking a 19-16 lead they would never relinquish securing the second set 25-19.
Bulldogs opened the third frame on a 6-0 service run from Salasky that included kills from Deaton,
Sarah Hayes Farley, and
Briana Holmes. The Bulldogs continued to pour on the pressure opening a 16-9 advantage forcing the Terriers to call their second timeout of the set. Wofford looked to make a late run, but the Bulldogs were able to take the third set 25-20.
The fourth set looked poised to be a seesaw of point exchanges, but after a 4-4 deadlock, the Terriers went on a four-point run forcing the Bulldogs to call timeout to stave the Wofford momentum. Despite Wofford continuing to hold a lead, the Bulldogs fought back pulling within three of the Terriers (14-11). Wofford was withing four points of closing the match when Samford made a run to pull within two (21-19), but the home side would not be denied taking the final set 25-20.
