BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball team wrapped up a dominant weekend with a 3-0 sweep of the Chattanooga Mocs on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Kenya McQuirter picked up right where she left off last night with a block and two kills in the opening three points for the Bulldogs followed up with an ace from senior
Lauren Deaton. The Mocs responded with a four-point run of their own to tie the first set at 4-4, and a back-and-forth battle ensured. Samford took a 15-11 advantage into the media timeout, but Chattanooga fought back once again to take a two-point lead (20-18) forcing a Bulldog timeout. Deaton and McQuirter had monster first sets racking up eith and seven kills respectively as it took extra points for the Bulldogs to seal the opening set 29-27.
In the second set, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-2 lead forcing Chattanooga into an early timeout to stave the Samford momentum. The Bulldogs continued to build a lead out of the timeout as McQuirter's big night continued as her 13
th kill of the night followed with by a back-row attack from Deaton opened a 16-9 advantage causing the Mocs to exhaust their timeouts for the set. Despite Chattanooga efforts to get back in the set Samford closed out the set with an emphatic 25-15 statements.
Samford continued to have the hot hand in the third frame exploding out of the blocks to a 10-5 lead after the Bulldogs 10
th service ace of the night came from
Andie Salasky forcing a timeout from the Mocs. However, Chattanooga fought back to tie the third set at 19-19, before the Bulldogs responded with a 3-0 run forcing Chattanooga to regroup once again. But McQuirter and the Bulldogs could not be stopped as Samford swept the Chattanooga Mocs taking the final set 25-21.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
- The Service Line. Samford recorded 10 aces on the night as Kayla Keshock provided three aces, with Emily Naubert, Salasky, and Deaton adding two each, while Kate Morgan capped off the category with one service ace.
- McQuirter set a new career high in kills with 24 in just three sets including back-to-back kills to end the match.
- Deaton posted a double-double with 15 kills and 13 digs aiding the Bulldogs offensively and defensively. Libero, Kate Morgan led the Bulldogs in the dig category with 14 on the night.
- Keshock recorded 42 assists in three sets adding nine digs in the Samford sweep.
- For the Mocs, Maia Rackel led the way with 12 kills, while Paige Gallentine posted 23 digs.
