MACON, Ga. – The Samford volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 20-25, 19-25) decision at Mercer Monday evening at Hawkins Arena.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 1-1, all in SoCon play. Mercer improves to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in league play.

• Lauren Deaton led Samford with 24 kills and 11 digs.
• Corinne Meglic had 37 assists and 10 digs.
• Emily Naubert also had 10 digs for Samford.

• In the first set, Mercer jumped out to an early 4-1 lead.
• Samford answered with a 7-1 run to take an 8-5 lead on an ace by Deaton.
• With Samford leading, 15-12, Mercer came back to tie the score at 16-16.
• Mercer fought back to take a 20-18 advantage.
• Samford came back to knot the score at 23-23, but Mercer scored the next two points to take the first set, 25-23.
• The score was tight throughout the first half of the second set.

• Samford cut the lead to four at 23-19, but Mercer scored the next two points to take the set, 25-19, and the match, 3-1.
