
Track And Field Looks To Repeat At The 2021 Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's and women's track and field squads look to defend their 2020 Southern Conference Indoor Titles at the SoCon Indoor Championships, February 27-28.
The Bulldogs competed in four regular-season contests at the Birmingham CrossPlex ahead of this weekend's Championship hosted by the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia. There will be no spectators allowed at the 2021 SoCon Indoor Championships; however, both days of the meet will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and live results will be posted as events conclude. The Bulldogs will look to grab both the men's and women's titles back-to-back for the first time in program history.

Title Defense:
- The women's team looks for their sixth-straight SoCon Championship.
- The men's team looks to go back-to-back after claiming their first ever SoCon Indoor title last year.
- This year marks the 86th edition of the men's championship and 34th women's championship.
- The Bulldogs men's squad ended the six-year reign of Western Carolina last year defeating the Catamounts with 190 to 160 points.
- Jose Penalver broke the program record for the men's 800m run (1:49.14) and is currently ranked in the top 25 in the nation for the event. Penalver was also a part of the men's 4x400-meter relay team that set a new program record on February 7 with a time of 3:16.85.
- Justin Stuckey will defend his men's high jump title and is also ranked in the top 25 in the nation for the event. The Bulldogs have claimed the men's high jump title the last four years in a row.
- Morayo Bhadmos finished second in the women's triple jump last year, and looks to add a SoCon title to her array of top finishes in the regular season
- Brittany Bishop won her first SoCon individual title last year in the women's pole vault (3.80 meteres) as the Bulldogs swept the podium in the event.
- Matt Cahoon is the defending champion in the men's shot put and the men's weight throw, and currently has the best marks in both events from the regular season throwing 15.37 meters and 17.32 meters respectively.
- Evan Brooks is currently leading the SoCon in the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 21.65 and looks to add a SoCon title to his sophomore campaign.
- Titus Moore has won back-to-back titles in the men's 60-meter hurdles and set a new meet record in the 2020 preliminaries with a time of 7.81.
- The SoCon power rankings have both Samford teams ranked first heading into the weekend, predicant successful title defenses for the Bulldogs.
